Goggy Davidowitz

Dr. Davidowitz has two main research programs. Basic research in ecological and evolutionary physiology investigates how insects adjust how they allocate nutrients in response to environmental change. For example, how do fluctuations in diet, temperature, and relative humidity affect how an insect allocates the nutrients it acquires to different body functions such as flight versus reproduction.  His applied research program is in developing insects as an alternative source of protein for food and feed. How can we use the huge diversity of insects to feed a growing population? This research program explores how we can repurpose food waste into food for insects, that in turn feed people. Our focus is on the integration of multiple food systems to maximize sustainability in a circular economy.
